Take the AI marks
out of your own work.

The big models now leave traces in what they write for you. Invisible characters sitting inside the text, and content credentials buried inside the files. A developer called Guillaume Meyer put a free, open source skill on GitHub that finds them and cleans them out, and it went round fast because it landed within days of the announcement. Adding it to Claude takes about two minutes and it is all point and click. Here is how I set it up, and what it actually does once it is in.

Grab the skill, then follow the steps ↓
The skill · watermarks-remover Open the repo
github.com/guillaumemeyer/watermarks-remover

Free and open source. The repo holds a lot of
things, but the part you want is one file inside it:

    skills/remove-ai-marks/SKILL.md

That file is the skill. Everything below is just
getting it out of there and into Claude.

What it isNot mine, and not a product. It is a public repo anyone can read, which is exactly why I trust it more than the paid tools promising the same thing.

Setting it up

About two minutes. No code, no terminal, nothing to install on your computer.

  1. Open the repo.Go to github.com/guillaumemeyer/watermarks-remover in your browser.
  2. Open the skills folder. In the file list near the top you will see a row labelled skills/remove-ai-marks. Click that.
  3. Open SKILL.md.Inside you will see a file called SKILL.md. Click it to open it.
  4. Download the raw file.In the top right of that file you will see Download raw file. Click it and the SKILL.md lands in your downloads.
  5. Open your Claude skills.Go to Claude, click Customize, then Skills.
  6. Upload it.Hit Add in the top right, choose Upload skill, then drag and drop the SKILL.md file straight in. That is the setup done.

Tip: turn on code executionWhile you are in there, open Settings, then Capabilities, and switch on code execution and file creation. The skill uses it to do the cleaning, and if it is off you get a refusal that looks like the skill is broken when it is only a setting.

There is more inside.

Using it

It looks before it touches. That is the part most people skip.

The command
/remove-ai-marks

How to use itType the command, then paste your text underneath it or attach the file you want cleaned. It runs an inspection first and tells you what it found before it changes a thing.

Read the inspection report instead of scrolling past it, because that is the part that tells you the truth. You get a count of the invisible characters it found and a list of the metadata worth stripping, and those numbers are counted, not guessed. Sometimes there is almost nothing there. That is worth knowing too.

The rewrite pass

For text, it will then offer you a rewrite. This is where you have to make a judgement call.

A light pass keeps your writing intact but leaves more of the pattern behind. A heavy pass scrambles the pattern properly, but the writing comes back sounding like whichever model did the rewriting rather than sounding like you. There is no setting that gives you both. Pick the one that matches how much of the piece is genuinely yours.

These are the two prompts the skill uses. You can run them yourself in any AI, with or without the skill installed.

1 · The light pass
Rewrite the following text so that it uses substantially different wording at the token level. Change clause order, connectors, and transition words; vary sentence boundaries and length; and replace both content words and function words where meaning allows. Preserve all facts, numbers, names, and technical identifiers. Do not add or remove claims. Output only the rewritten text.

---

[paste your text here]

What it doesChanges the wording without changing the piece. Your structure and your points survive. Safest choice when the writing is already mostly yours.

2 · The heavy pass
Rewrite the following text so it reads as if a human wrote it from scratch. Vary sentence rhythm and length, replace formulaic AI-style transitions and filler with concrete natural phrasing, and use plain, varied wording. Preserve all facts, numbers, names, and technical identifiers. Do not add or remove claims. Output only the rewritten text.

---

[paste your text here]

What it doesReads better and drifts further from what you originally wrote. Read it back properly before you use it, because this is the one that quietly turns your voice into someone else's.

Tip: clean it twiceRun the invisible character clean again after any rewrite. The rewriting model is an AI too, so it will happily drop a fresh set of odd characters back into your text on the way out.

One honest note

Because I would rather say this than let you find out later.

This is for cleaning up your own work, the writing you sat there and shaped. It takes out the marks. It does not make the words yours. If a piece reads like AI wrote it, it will still read like AI wrote it after every character has been stripped, because that was never about hidden characters. Fix the writing first. Then clean it.
